How to Swaddle a Baby

In this episode we offer some techniques for swaddling your baby. Nicknamed "the burrito," this is a simple swaddling method that dads can easily learn. You infant or baby will be much easier to sooth when properly swaddled. We bring in our expert pediatrician and Baby 411 author Ari Brown to demonstrate this swaddling technique. Baby Zoe volunteers to help out.  All you need is a receiving blanket and some practice to be a master burrito swaddler. If you have a colicky baby, this technique is really useful to pacify the baby. Some studies have shown that proper swaddling can reduce the risk of SIDS. Miracle Blanket, Sleepsack and Truewomb are specialized swaddling blankets if a simple receiving blanket is not enough or you are worried about choking hazards.Ep 810 is brought to you by BabyBjorn and their new Baby carrier Miracle.

Daddy Clay:  You won't find it on the baby food aisle, but your infant just loves a burrito. Today's episode is brought to you by BabyBjorn and their new baby carrier, Miracle. Same great BabyBjorn design, even greater comfort. The burrito swaddle is a basic parenting technique, and one that all dads should know well. To demonstrate, we've brought on our favorite pediatrician and "Baby 411" author, Dr. Ari Brown.
Dr. Ari Brown:  I'm Dr. Ari Brown with the 411 on how to swaddle your baby. And this is Baby Zoey, who's volunteered to help out today. You want to take a receiving blanket, put it on the table, take the top corner and bring it down. So you get a nice horizontal line. Then you take your baby... Come here, Zoey. Hi. Get the shoulders right along that line. Bring the corner up as far as you can.
[baby sneezes]
Dr. Brown:  Bless you. Bring one side around, bring the other side around... And this is a baby burrito wrap.
Daddy Clay:  Some studies have shown that swaddling an infant may actually reduce the risk of SIDs, and I know as the parent of three colicky babies that it definitely helps to soothe the savage beast. Now, if you're worried that your swaddling may come loose and cause a choking hazard, there are a number of specialized swaddling blankets on the market. Some examples are the Miracle Blanket, the Halo Sleep Sack, and the True Womb, a product that we've profiled right here on DadLabs. If you've got some thoughts about swaddling we sure hope you'll share them with us on DadLabs.com. The forum is bustling with moms and dads, all talking about their experiences as parents. We sure hope that you'll join us there. Today's episode is brought to you by BabyBjorn and their new baby carrier, Miracle. That's all for us today here in the lab.
