It's the biggest news flash of your life: You're going to be a dad. How should you react when you hear those two words, "I'm Pregnant"? In this episode of The Lab, Daddy Owen and other fathers share their reactions with hearing about their impending fatherhood. What did they feel when they saw the pregnancy test and realized their wife or partner was having a baby? Shock, surprise, fear, joy, hilarity. All of the above. DadLabs ep 445 "The Lab" brought to you by BabyBjorn.
DAD 1: My wife was in the bathroom and I heard “Omar!” When she called me I was like, “what!?” Do you need toilet paper? What’s the matter?
DAD 2: I was lying in bed at about seven in the morning. My wife comes in with this little piece of plastic with some stripes on it. So what do we do now? So we just went back to bed. She’s looking to me for advice. That’s the first time you know you’re going to be a father. What do you do? Go to sleep. It was like seven in the morning. We can tell everybody later.
DAD 3: We had only been trying for about two months. And I wanted to do the pee on a stick test with her. I wasn’t going to pee on the stick I just wanted to be with her and we could sit there and wait for the plus or minus. I wanted my life to be like one of those commercials. She just jumped the gun and peed on two sticks by herself at home. She just called me in the middle of class and goes “guess what we’re going to have a baby!” And I’m like, the only thing I could think of was “you -----!” She even offered to pee on another stick but it’s not the same. It’s like going to a sporting event and knowing who’s going to win. It kind of ruined the moment for me and we still to this day talk about how she stole that from me and I will never be able to get that back.
DAD 4: One night at a performance I came down at intermission to the sound booth and she came up and gave me a real big hug and whispered in my ear “I’m pregnant!” And we both had a little cry there. She works in an office full of pharmacists and they knew before we did. They noticed that her face had broken out and her boobs were a little bit bigger. I was like the minute you get off the pill we’re going to get pregnant and she was like, no, no! You don’t know my boys!
OWEN: I should point out that Jodi was on the pill. The pill I trusted. I trusted in modern medicine and the church. And then she said “you’re going to be a Dad.” Right, I was hoping you were going to say that the pill didn’t work. Even though I’m not catholic I spend enough time in that monastery visiting that my sperm no longer believed in birth control. At that point we went back to the house and I had some tequila.

Pregnancy Test Fail
Jodi announces that she thinks she might be pregnant, and invites Owen to participate in a journey of discovery. Owen is cool with it as long as it doesn't have anything to do with pee. A good lesson in how not to react in this situation. DadLabs ep 451 is brought to you by BabyBjorn.
