In this episode of The Lab, Daddy Clay and Daddy Brad talk about fertility, specifically male fertility. Watch as they discuss the importance of diet, exercise and a healthy lifestyle when trying to get pregnant. What can a potential dad avoid to increase your sperm count and make conception easier? What effect do heat and hot tubs have on infertility? DadLabs gets to the bottom of it. Ep 441 is brought to you by BabyBjorn.
CLAY Welcome back the lab, I’m Daddy Clay.
BRAD And I’m Daddy Brad. Today is a very special day because starting today we have a new, long-term sponsor.
CLAY Thank you, Baby Bjorn!
BRAD That’s right, for the next six months - - over 100 shows -- we will be brought to you by the amazing people at Baby Bjorn.
CLAY And just to make sure we kick things off right, and that everybody is comfortable with the new partnership, we’re going to talk about sperm.
BRAD This week in the Lab: male fertility.
CLAY Because if you want a baby to put in your Baby Bjorn carrier, first you gotta..you know...be fertile.
BRAD Why is fertility always a woman thing? Men are involved here. I think men should take back fertility.
CLAY So here is our take on male enhancement.
BRAD Dude, male enhancement is not fertility.
CLAY Then what are those emails you forward to me all about?
BRAD Of course the best way to increase your fertility is simply to embrace a healthy lifestyle.
CLAY Exercise regularly, and stay hydrated. Speaking of which, I’m parched.
BRAD Eat a diet rich in anti-oxydants, or take a multi-vitamin. On the flip side heave use of alcohol, tobacco or marijuana will significantly lower your counts.
CLAY The system also works best when it is kept in regular use, but not overtaxed. Your sperm counts will be highest when you have one ejaculation every 24 to 48 hours. Less often than that, and the number of dead and dying sperm in each ejaculation increase; more often than that and the sperm count is depleted.
BRAD How you choose to use this information is up to you.
CLAY Also, wearing a lab coat whenever saying “ejaculation” is key.
BRAD The biggest enemy of male fertility is heat.
CLAY Hot tubs are the biggest culprit, but you might want to avoid saunas, long, hot bubble baths, or even really hot showers. Anytime you are submerging in hot water, you are bumping off swimmers by the millions.
BRAD Be careful where you dunk your junk.
CLAY You know, I’m not real sure about this scene.
BRAD A couple of final studies to consider.
CLAY Studies have found that prolonged exposure to vibration can ding your
count, so long haul trucking and extended rides on the Harley. Not good for fertility.
BRAD And as to tighty whities, studies have found that they DO NOT lower your sperm count.
CLAY Which begs the question, who signs up for these studies? And what exactly are the procedures?
BRAD That’s all for us this week in the lab. Thanks to our fantastic sponsors, Baby Bjorn.
CLAY Thanks for joining us, and if you haven’t already. Please check out DadLabs dot com for the best dad community on the web. We’ll see you there.
