Special thanks for Whole Foods. DadLabs Ep. 549 The Lab is brought to you by Baby Bjorn.
Daddy Clay: Hey, welcome back to the lab. I'm Daddy Clay. Daddy Brad is on paternity leave. we want to thank our sponsors, Baby Bjorn for bringing you this special episode. Now, if you've got a wife that's expecting or just delivered a baby it's a great idea to put together a thoughtful gift basket of healthy products for her and the baby. What do you get? We've come here to whole foods in Austin for some ideas.

Daddy Clay: Here we are with Hibiscus who is the Whole Body Merchandiser here at Whole Foods Market and she's gathered a bunch of products that dads can put together as sort of a gift basket for an expecting or new mom. So, Hibiscus, now I've got to ask. Did you just walk into Whole Foods and say "Hi, my name's Hibiscus" and they hired you right away?

Hibiscus: It was just like that, exactly.

Daddy Clay: So, tell us about the products that you've picked out?

Hibiscus: We have a few things. We have supplements, some body care items and always What To Expect When You're Expecting, one of the greatest books.

Here we have DHA which studies have shown that it helps to support brain development in children.

Daddy Clay: So this goes along with the prenatal vitamin? It's another supplement?

Hibiscus: Exactly. You would take a prenatal and a DHA and that would be perfect.

Something else that seems so simple but something we don't think about. When you're pregnant and have a big belly you can't bend over and scrub your legs. And that's a very thoughtful gift. You can think, "I know you can't tie your shoes, I know you can't scrub your friends."

Daddy Clay: You don't think this is going to backfire on the dad that's like "you're so huge you can't bathe yourself."

Hibiscus: No, no. I have to say it's some of my pregnant moms' favorite product.

Many moms are very nauseous and ginger is great for nausea. We have ginger supplements that are chewables, we have liquids. We even have ginger candy.

Another one that's really good is aroma therapy. It can be a little bit touchy. You never want to wear aroma therapy oils when you're pregnant. But combinations like langling and rose are great during giving birth because they are strengthening essential oils. If you're having a home birth you can use a candle diffuser or if it's at a hospital you can also put it on the pillow.

Daddy Clay: But you don't put these on mom?

Hibiscus: Yeah, you never want to wear essential oils when pregnant because they are very concentrated.

Mother's Special Blend. One of my favorites. If we had smellovision you would love it. It will make you crave chocolate candy. It is for stretch marks and helping to keep skin smooth. Something that even dad can help out with because you can rub it on mom.

Daddy Clay: Or put it on my stretch marks?

Hibiscus: Or you could put it on mom so you can give her a nice massage.

Daddy Clay: Where's my dad cream for my dad stretch marks?

Hibiscus: Another great thing is teas. They're warm and soothing. We all love teas. This is great Mother's Milk for mothers once they have their child if they're not lactating correctly. It has herbs like finnecreek and milk thistle which have been shown to support producing milk. Also Raspberry Leaf and Pregnancy Tea which helps support a healthy pregnancy and healthy uterine walls.

Daddy Clay: It says very much, "I care about your health. Here's some tea. Chill, will you relax? Because you're driving me crazy."

How about the nipple cream? I'm curious about the nipple cream.

Hibiscus: I'm sure you're very curious about this one. When you're breast feeding, your child is sitting there and it's biting and it can become very chafed. It is all natural herbs that this is made out of and it's completely ingestible. So even if you have it on and your child's nursing that's a great one.

There's also Sitz Bath which is great for after giving labor. A woman may have tears or different sores or hemroids and this is a great thing to add into your bath to help heal those tears and those wounds after labor.

Daddy Clay: One of the things that's interesting about this as a gift basket is it sort of acknowledges the reality of what your wife is going through in the pregnancy and I think that's going to make a new mom very grateful.

Hibiscus: And something else, if you're in here shopping for mom come by the Whole Body department. We have a shopping baby list and you can also go to wholefoodsmarket.com/wholebaby and get this list.

Daddy Clay: Get your Cliff Notes when shopping for mom. Thanks a lot Hibiscus.

Hibiscus: Thank you.

Daddy Clay: That's all for us here in the lab.
