Video games can equal great family fun. In this episode of The Lab, Daddy Clay and Daddy Brad break down two of the most popular music games, Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) and Guitar Hero. If you've got a Nintendo Wii, Playstation or other game consoles, these fun games can keep you and your kids entertained for hours on end. Introduce your children to great music songs and tunes, and get them moving and dancing. Watch as these dads humiliate themselves with their lame attempts at gaming. DadLabs ep. 44 The Lab.
Daddy Brad: Welcome back to the dadlabs! I’m Daddy Brad
Daddy Clay: And I’m Daddy Clay.
Daddy Brad: Today we’re going to continue our discussion on video games.
Daddy Clay: So, you went ahead and sprung for the video game system for the kids, but you’re feeling a little guilty because they’re spending the whole day sitting on the sofa, drooling, moving nothing but their thumbs and their retinas.
Daddy Brad: Today we are going to suggest two games that will help get them off the couch. Get them up there moving and grooving, dancing to the music.
Daddy Clay: One way to get the kids moving is to buy them a Nintendo Wii, with its unique controller, senses a players motion. Now as soon as they get the wrist straps figured out so that kids aren’t chucking these things through windows and TVs, we’d really like to test one out, here in the dad labs. So Nintendo if you’re watching, hook us up.
Daddy Brad: The games we’re going to talk about today, are compatible with the less expensive gaming systems such as the PS2.
Daddy Clay: The first game we’re going to talk about is Dance, Dance Revolution, known on the street as DDR. Now this is the latest release; DDR Supernova.
(Daddy Brad holds up a DDR Supernova game.)
Daddy Clay: If you wanna play this game at home, you’re going to need two things: this game disk, which is going to set you back about $36 or so. You can also get this on ebay used, which I highly recommend. You also need this game pad right here.
(Daddy Clay shows us the pad on the floor, unfolded.)
Daddy Clay: Now this runs about $20, it comes from Gamestop, although there are lots of different makers. This one I’m not sure you want to get used, because some big ol’ chubby Internet guy may have been dancing on it.
Daddy Brad: Ewww.
Daddy Clay: Plus it kind of personal, don’t you think? Anyway, if you want to play the game, here’s how you do it. You just have to time your dance steps, right, left, front, and back, with the commands that are on the screen. (Dance music plays in the background.) It helps if you have a real sense of dance style.
(Daddy Clay dances on the mat “Flashdance” style while “Maniac” play in the background.)
Daddy Clay: One of the best things about this game is the fun songs that are on the jukebox. It’s important for the kids to know the finer things like Funkytown. And now it’s time for the showdown. Daddy Brad, you ready for me, my friend? Cause I’m about to dance circles around you.
Daddy Brad: Me??
Daddy Clay: Here we go buddy. It’s just you and me, mono y mono. DDR. Who is the master DDR dancer in the dadlabs? Money’s on the pink folks, money’s on the pink.
Daddy Brad: Is that what you were doing? You call that dancing?
Daddy Clay: Shut up and dance.
(Daddy Clay dances to the beat.)
Daddy Clay and Daddy Brad trash talk each other.
Daddy Brad now dances to the beat.
Daddy Clay: Failed, failed, failed.
Daddy Brad: How many points?
Daddy Clay: 15
Daddy Brad: Whoo hoo, 15 points!!!! What’s your score?
Daddy Clay: I scored 25 so pink is the winner. It’s pink.
Daddy Brad: Now this next game is much more my style. It’s called Guitar Hero. It’s a lot like DDR, you’ve got this special instrument panel (showcases a fake guitar) and you also need a game disk. This will set you back about $80. What you do is strum the guitar, to the notes that are coming up on the screen and you get points for doing that. When you hit a bad note, it goes BUUURNK! Anyway there are different levels of difficulty. You can play solo or you can do the guitar challenge. Now, I’m going to challenge Daddy Clay here and we’re gonna play to some cool jams DNR, Leonard Skinnerd,
Daddy Clay: Bring it on
Daddy Brad continues: Cheap Trick, Awh it’s gonna be good. Yea, bring it on man! One note, one note. This one is a little more sophisticated so it’s good for kids 9 and above.
Daddy Clay: Bring it on!
Daddy Brad: Lets guitaroff! Here we go!
(The showdown begins.)
Daddy Clay: Thank you Austin. You people rock! We love you, no song requests.
Daddy Brad: (Daddy Brad Laughs) It was horrible. I think this goes to show you that video games should be played by people 18 and under.
Daddy Clay: I should have been a rock star.
Daddy Brad: You should have been a geologist. Alright we love DDR Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero here at the dadlabs.
Daddy Clay: And we thank you for joining us, but please don’t call today because I’m going to be in here practicing my acts.
Daddy Brad: Yea
Daddy Clay: Do it
Daddy Brad: Bring it on, this time I’ma really getcha. Here we go.
