Drinking During Pregnancy?

Moms going through pregnancy make lots of sacrifices for the health of their babies, such as giving up drinking alcohol, smoking and drugs. Should dads follow suit by giving up their vices or is drinking the occasional beer acceptable? Daddy Clay and Daddy Brad give their thoughts in this episode of The Lab. They are joined by some authors who share their opinion on the topic. You'll even see a lesson on some of the recommended ales should you decide to drink a few beers. Ep 485 is brought to you by BabyBjorn.

DADDY BRAD: Your wife or partner is expecting, so she’s quit smoking, drinking and of course drugs.

DADDY CLAY: Which has you thinking: to compensate, should I double up.

DADDY BRAD: That’s right, this week in the lab we’re talking about pregnancy, vices and dads.

DADDY CLAY: Today’s show is brought to you by BabyBjorn. If you are sensitive, involved, loving and informed, you may not need to buy a BabyBjorn Baby carrier to show you care. But it couldn’t hurt. BabyBjorn.

DADDY BRAD: So here’s the question, and I’m right in the middle of this right now, if she’s pregnant and has to quit all these things, alcohol, shouldn’t a good dad do the same.

DADDY CLAY: Before I offer an opinion on that subject, I really think we should get some data. Let’s hear from our favorite author moms.

DADDY BRAD: Chicken

DADDY CLAY: It’s loaded question. Roll those interviews.

DADDY CLAY: So moms can go two ways, either the “I’ve got to suffer, so you should suffer” School, or the “at least one of us should be able to drink” school. And you just kind of hope you get the latter. And you may think you know which one your spouse of going to be, but pregnancy changes things

DADDY BRAD: How about just getting it out of her face. Retreating to the manhouse. Beers at poker night. That kind of thing

DADDY CLAY: But doesn’t that just drive you apart.

DADDY BRAD: Not if you do it right.

DADDY CLAY: Or how about this idea: you cut down the amount of beer you drink, and in exchange you get really, really good beer. BRAD Most of the moms we’ve talked to seemed pretty tolerant of dad having the occasional beer, but take advantage of the Impregnated and Designated program too often, and you might find your privileges revoked.

DADDY CLAY: Did you quit drinking when your spouse was pregnant? Or have an opinion on this subject? Please join the conversation at DadLabs dot com. We’re talking it over , and we want to hear from you on the best dad’s forum on the web. DadLabs.com.

DADDY BRAD: We want to thank our sponsors, BabyBjorn. Baby wearing is the best way to start imparting those values early. BabyBjorn Baby Carrier Original Spirit.

DADDY CLAY: We’ll see you next time in the Lab.

My husband chose to double down. Honestly, it got old near the end when I was crying one child and having to take care of a full grown child... I mean my husband. smilies/wink.gif

Five Things Not to Say During Labor and Delivery
In this DadLabs video Daddy Clay and Daddy Brad discuss the five phrases Dads should never say in the labor and delivery room. These five phrases should be avoided at all cost during the birth of a baby. Starting with number 5, Is that normal? Never show fear in the delivery room, and always stay calm and collected with your pregnant wife. Number 4 is avoiding anything that involves my Mom says. While experiencing childbirth the last thing your wife wants to hear is any advise or anything to do with her mother-in-law. Number 3 is to ask, why is the birth in the metric system? Do the math yourself and keep irrellevant questions out of the birthing center. The number 2 things to avoid is saying "I'm not sure I'm ready for this." It's too late to make that decision, and the most important thing is to be supportive during the child birth process. The final thing, and most important to remember is to avoid saying anything like "toughen up" and/or "suck it up". Baby Delivery whether natural birth or through a cesarean section is a very difficult process. If you have any questions make sure to ask your doula or your midwife, and most of all be supportive through the pregnancy. The Lab Ep 528 brought to you by BabyBjorn.
