Dad Blog Challenge

Daddy Clay recently went to the Mom 2.0 Summit, a conference for mommy bloggers that took place in New Orleans. While there is no dad blog conference, there are a number of panels that deal with dad blogging issues and other fatherhood topics. And when compared to mom blogs, dad blogs don't have quite the same reach. So Daddy Clay is issuing a challenge to dads - go read a dad blog. Find a great blog like Dadcentric or Dadwagon or one of the many other fatherhood blogs and come back to DadLabs and tell us about it. DadLabs Ep. 762 is brought to you by BabyBjorn.
Daddy Clay: BabyBjorn, Swedish design, dad-friendly, BabyBjorn. Hey there, Daddy Clay from DadLabs coming to you from the Mom 2.0 Summit here in New Orleans, Louisiana. Now you may wonder why a dad is here at a mom blogger conference. That's because there is no dad blogger conference. The organizers of Mom 2.0 have been kind enough to create a number of panels that deal with dad blogging issues and talking about what the future of dad blogging's gonna be. One of the questions has always been why is mom blogging an epic multi-million page view a day juggernaut, as opposed to dad blogging which is a small and proud, brave band of lonely souls. Why don't dads read more dad blogs? And the answer that usually gets thrown out is dads don't want to do that. They don't want to ask directions. They don't want anybody telling them how to parent. They're not interested in talking about the most important experience in their lives. I think that's crap. Men do want to talk about these things. I know you do. And you want to read about this experience because it's really important. So I've got a challenge for you. Today is dad blog day. For you buddy. You're gonna go out there and you're gonna read a dad blog. Why? Because there's tons of great ones out there. Start with Dadcentric or Dadwagon. You could even read the blog at DadLabs. You know, we have one. You should read it. And leave a comment. And then when you're done, come back here, leave a comment on this video saying which dad blog you visited and what your experience there was. Again, you can do it. I know that you can. People say dads are capable of this. But you know what? We used to chase buffalo with bows and arrows. We don't do that anymore do we? Go read a dad blog. It's good for you.

I subscribe to the dadlabs blog on my iPhone to keep up to date. I don't know what other blogs to check out! I might start with Brandon's suggestion.

What I wonder is... How can you become a daddy blogger? How do you know what you talk about, where to start? It's a thought that has crossed my mind since I will be having a son in a month.

I started a blog for my family to keep them informed and up to date with the goings on of all things baby. Maybe that's a start? I don't know that I am good enough of a writer.

There are alot of daddy blogs out there. I am trying to compile a list of the ones that I read on a regular basis on my blog http://therookiedad.wordpress.com

Dadcentric the one that is mentioned by Daddy Clay here is a great one. I prefer reading the ones who don't blog for a living just because it seems like they can connect better to their readers... that's isn't to say that some of the guys who do it for a living can't connect with us everyday folks HAHA! Dadlabs (not to suck up) but does a good job of that despite some of the products they review and talk about are on the rather pricey end.

Check out digital dads, beta dad, Luke, I am your Father is good too http://liayf.blogspot.com/.

Honestly, I started mine for the same reasons as you said. After a while it started to build a readership. I mainly talk about the humorous side of being a dad. There are some serious topics like when we didn't know the chipmunk had an ear infection (he had it for a month) and just about my fathering adventure. I started it for just the family and then all of a sudden it transformed into many people reading it! If you get one started let me know!

Thanks for the Encouragement Brandon.

I am gonna add some of these blogs (and yours) to my new rotation.

As for myself. I like to keep things pretty light hearted, but I also wonder what people have to learn from my situation. I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I have a lot of issues with my father... so naturally getting ready to have a son, I don't want to make the same mistakes my father made. I also don't want to make the same mistakes he made as a husband. I think I would definitely like to write from this angle for dad who struggle with the same issues. Not sure though, still just a thought floating on by. We'll see if it sticks around.

Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the inspiration fellas! Especially you Brandon.

I am now dad-blogging. I am going to keep the self promotion to a minimum. Going to try to keep in anonymous for my family's sake. So I might just post the addy this once since Brandon shared his with me (which I have started reading, thanks)
