EP 510 Sebastian On Parenting

DADDY BRAD In this episode in quality time I sit down with comedian Sebastian and ask him what it’s like sharing the world with parents and their kids.

SEBASTIAN I did have a good summer now that its winter, I did have a good summer. I took my niece to the water slides. Have you been to the water slides lately? I took her to the Wet and Wild, I haven’t been there in twenty years, things have changed people. When I went as a kid two bucks to get into the park and they give you a little shammy.

DADDY BRAD This episode is brought to you by BabyBjorn, the baby gear to have when your having babies. Now Sebastian is a very opinionated guy, you can check him out on his dvd, Sebastian Live: What were you thinking? Also, you can check him out on his Comedy Central. Now quality time is about going in the world with your kids and doing fun things. I have often wondered what’s it like for those people who don’t have kids when the hoards of families and their kids descend upon the world. Sebastian had a few opinions on this issue.

DADDY BRAD You love the Japanese culture and how they raise their kids, why what do they do?

SEBASTIAN Japanese people are quiet. I don’t know if you have seen them out in public, I was sitting next to 15 Japanese people last night and didn’t know they were there until they got up. And their kids are trained soldiers. They sit at the table at a ninty degree angle they don’t say nothing. Now have you ever seen the white kid? Running around with just a diaper on with apple sauce on the face and the parent is just sitting there saying aww isn’t he so cute? No! You know whats cute, the two year old Japanese kid in a suit eating with sticks asking for the check.

DADDY BRAD So Sebastian how do you feel about kids riding on air planes with their kids?

SEBASTIAN I believe there should be a crying room on the plane. The parents don’t even act like the kids crying. When the kids are crying I stare directly at the parent. Five and up they should be on the air plane.

DADDY BRAD Parenting is obviously different today then when we were kids. How do you feel about that?

SEBASTIAN todays parents have to involve their kid in everything, every sport and every club. The kids are exhausted, just pick one thing and let the kid do that. And a lot of these parents cant fathom that a lot of these kids might not be good at stuff. They got to complain to the coach at half time, why isn’t my kid playing? Its because he stinks.

DADDY BRAD Shouldn’t they be able to do that as children to explore.

SEBASTIAN You have to prepare these kids for life, disappointment and failure. I’m not into this where everybody gets a trophy when did this start? My parents didn’t sugar coat it for me. My father put me in basketball, and at the first game in half time he came down from the stands and told me to get in the car you stink. And that was it, he put me in the trunk and we went home.

DADDY BRAD Well that’s all for us here at quality time, I would like to thank our sponsors BabyBjorn and we would also like to thank Sebastian for sitting down with us and telling us what he was thinking. Remember to catch his new video Sebastian Live: What were you thinking? As well as his Comedy Central special. And if you have a story about going out into the world and terrorizing it with your kids, drop us a line at dadlabs .com

SEBASTIAN There is one slide that was called fun run, you go up some steps with your shammy. You were going so slow you would stop in the middle. Some more water would come. Ease your self into the pool, no problem. I went this past summer, twenty nine dollars to get in the park, and no shammy.
