Kid's First Haircut

In this episode of Quality Time, Daddy Brad meets with hair stylist Brandy Sheriff from Finley’s Barber Shop to discuss getting your kid’s first haircut. With all the combs and scissors and strange chairs, the first haircut can be a scary event for your kids. Make sure you take them to a good hair salon or barbershop and introduce them to your stylist. Pick a good hair style and let the captains of cosmetology work their magic. While at the hair salon make sure that you let the stylist work on your kids hair styles, and try not to interfere with the haircut process. Whether it’s a boys haircut or a girls haircut, long hair or curly hair, find a good stylist that will make your kid feel comfortable during their first haircut. Quality Time ep 537 is brought to you by BabyBjorn.
EP 537 first haircut

DADDY BRAD What if somebody with knifes and a black stick you would freak out too. On this episode of quality time, we’re going to talk about taking your kid to get his first hair cut. This episode of quality time is brought to you by BabyBjorn lots of cool baby products in many different colors. BabyBjorn. I’m pleased to be joined today by Brandy Sheriff, excellent stylist. She is going to talk to me about taking my child to get their first haircut. Hi Brandy.

BRANDY Hi how are you?

DADDY BRAD I’m good. Thank you for coming in today. You know first time you do things, it can be really traumatic. Is there anything parents can do to prepare their kids for their first haircut.

BRANDY First thing you want to do is talk to your child before you take them in to get a hair cut. And prepare them, and let them know some of the things that are going to happen. When they come in to get the hair cut you want to introduce them with the stylist as a friend. You want to start to show them all the tools and let them know what the scissors do and that these wont cut you. What I do is that I’m really friendly with the kids I say hi I’m Brandy show them my scissors and show them the cape.

DADDY BRAD The cape goes around.

BRANDY Exactly. Try to get their mind off the whole situation.

DADDY BRAD When the kids are in the seat they are obviously sitting on something.

BRANDY Right they’re sitting on a booster.

DADDY BRAD What can mom or dad do while their kid is getting a haircut.

BRANDY They don’t want to be so involved because the child tends to act differently. If the mother is right there close, and once the child knows that everything is ok the stylist can finish the haircut better when the parent is right there and looking at them in front.

DADDY BRAD So the kid knows your there, but your not right there. So do they play with toys?

BRANDY Usually not. Because what that does is they’ll start getting in their own zone with playing with it, which makes it hard. What I like to do is keep them focused and let them know they are getting a haircut. Sometimes when I need to get them to move their head around I’ll take my comb and move it around to a focal point to where they can move around to whatever direction.

DADDY BRAD How long does a hair cut last? If I’m budgeting my time how long will it be?

BRANDY Usually a good haircut, which is the key word will take at least thirty minutes.

DADDY BRAD Where is your place of business?

BRANDY I work at Finley’s Barber Shop in Lakeway Texas. A lot of mothers and fathers bring their kids into the shop because we make the kids feel comfortable. Get give them a shampoo and hot towels. We massage their back with a back massager. We spoil them so it makes them feel really comfortable.

DADDY BRAD We would like to thank our sponsors BabyBjorn, great baby gear, BabyBjorn. I would also like to thank Finley’s Barber Shop in Lakeway Texas and Brandy Sheriff coming in and shedding light on telling parents how to have a great first haircut.
