Daddy Clay: My top tip for traveling with a family - Don't have three kids. Today's episode of Quality Time is brought to you by BabyBjorn. When you're packing up, don't forget the potty. So just back from my extended vacation with my family, summertime. So I've been thinking a lot about traveling with the kids. So I've got some tips for you. I always try to practice sort of 50/50 parenting with my wife. But when we're traveling, I have a hard time holding up my end of the bargain. She packs more lunches, handles more logistics, puts on more sunscreen. Basically, I can't keep up. So the only way i can compensate is by becoming the family photographer. Being the family photographer on the summer vacation, like most of parenting, it's about showing up, with the gear. Now, if you've got a little point and shoot like this, that's pretty easy because it's in your pocket no matter where you go. But I decided that there might be more brownie points involved if I was producing prettier photographs, frame-worthy kind of stuff. So I upgraded my camera. I went for a DSLR. This is my rig. It's a Nikon. I went for an upgraded lens. And this is what I shoot with. And this is what I shoot with. But really that's not the biggest challenge. It's about showing up with your gear. And if you're on summer vacation, you're hiking, you're at the beach, what you really need is a great camera bag. This is my bag. This is a Lowepro camera bag. I got it from Costco. The features that make this a fantastic bag for a dad. This one-strap operation means that as soon as you see your kids doing something cute, you whip this around and this top loader right here makes your camera immediately available to you. Other things that I really love about this bag. Great pocket right here for wallet and for your phone. And one of the trickier things about this bag, it comes with a weather cover that you can pull over and make this whole rig semi-waterproof if you're out on the boat or you're on the beach. So a good camera bag is really the most important thing to being a great family photographer. Final thing - splurge on an adventure. Every year I gather my kids together and we go on a fishing charter. We had an incredible adventure. We caught big fish, we faced giant waves, we saw whales all around the boat all day long. So if you have an opportunity, you're in Chatham, or anywhere else, go on a fishing charter. Family, Chatham Charters, out of the fish pier in Chatham if you happen to be in that part of the world. When you're deciding on family vacation, do you go with tradition or do you go with innovation? Do you like to go to the same spot year after year? Or do you like to go somewhere different with each new family vacation? We've got a conversation about that going on at DadLabs.com. Please join in. We really want to hear from you. You'll hear from us. And we want to thank our sponsors BabyBjorn. It's good to take your potty with you when you're traveling. We'll see you next time here on Quality Time.

I misspoke in the video (shocker) -- the charter company is Chatham Family Charters and here is their website: http://www.chathamfamilycharters.com/

The camera bag featured in the website is a Lowepro Slingshot 100 AW and retails for about $60-80. Available via Best Buy, Amazon and Sears.
