Clay: We're good parents. We swear. A lot. Today's episode of Quality Time is brought to you by BabyBjorn. Good way to keep frustration down. Thoughtful design, BabyBjorn's all about that. Great products. We swear. Now a major part of parenting is not cursing in front of your children. And like most major parts of parenting, it's totally impossible for normal people to do and stay sane. So despite never having any success in this area myself, I've got a number of tricks and tips for you to avoid cursing in front of your children. Here's a tip. Consider putting the little ones to bed at 4:00 or 4:30 in the afternoon. This really cuts down on the amount of swearing that they hear. Never have other adults over for cocktails or other social interaction. If you're telling a story that simply must have dirty words for the narrative effect, try mouthing the curse. Or simply saying the first part of the word. And then the rest of the word very quietly. For example, that guy was a total. If there are children in the zip code, do not come anywhere near the wireless router, or install system software, or use the printer. If watching sports on TV, take a cue from Drew Brees, MVP of the Super Bowl. Never drive with your children. You could try putting in the taxi cab style plexi glass between the drivers and the passengers, but it would have to be at least an inch think. And finally, never hit your elbow. Now here's a tip, when you're with your children, keep your elbows tucked in tightly and think to yourself often, "Where are my elbows?" Some benefits of never swearing in front of your kids. Your children will grow up knowing that the world is never a frustrating or annoying place. They'll understand that they're capable of bottling all those feelings inside if they just try hard enough. And they'll also understand that those drivers out there on the highway, they're citizens just like them. And just because they're cut off on the freeway, that's no reason to spew.
