Jump! Gymnastics

The dads at DadLabs are always on the lookout for fun activities for kids. This week, Daddy Owen joins his daughter Arden during her after school gymnastics class. Gymnastics is a great sport for younger children and gives them a chance to exercise and be active. Learn what parents should look for in their kids coaches. And check out how dad and budding gymnast Owen matches up to the kid gymnasts when he attempts a few moves. DadLabs Ep. 566 Hot Dad Action is brought to you by BabyBjorn. Special thanks to Jump! Gymnastics.
Daddy Owen: We at DadLabs are always on the lookout for cool things to do with kids once the school day is done. A chance to be active and get introduced to some new skills. We've come down to Jump! Gymnastics in South Austin to check out the scene. By the way, today's DadLabs is brought to you by BabyBjorn. Cause Swedes love spandex.

Natalie: Our philosophy here at Jump! Gymnastics is to be Austin's most fun way to learn gymnastics. We find that it's important for kids to have fun, but also for them to learn it and to be able to come away from here knowing how to do somersaults and knowing how to do cartwheels and being stronger and more flexible. Gymnastics is a really awesome sport because it is one of the only sports that you can start when you're 2 and 3 and really see a lot of benefit from at the young age. Physical abilities, I think are far beyond a lot of other sports because they encompass the entire body. You're using your legs, you're using your core, you're using your arms. And any part of the sport where you're laying a muscular foundation at that young of an age sticks with your for your entire life.

Coach: So hands on yellow, feet on blue. And now if you're older, you try to lift your feet up and hold yourself up. So are you ready?

Owen: Yes. Hands on yellow, feet on blue.

Coach: Lift your feet up and hold them.

Owen: Lift my feet up?

Coach: Yeah, hold yourself up on your arms.

Owen: Like that?

Coach: That's awesome.

Natalie: The classes are 45 minutes and you meet once a week so you come to that same class time each week. The kids get to know the kids and the parents get to know the parents and it builds a really awesome community. Not to scare you parents out there but, to be a gymnastics coach you need absolutely no qualifications, no certifications, and no background checks. The one piece of advice I would give parents is call your local gyms. Make sure that they are members of USA Gymnastics. And if they say yes, go a little bit further and ask them if their coaches are certified. We focus on the preschool levels so all of our coaches have first aid basic training. They have preschool fundamentals. We have safety certification. And then depending on which coach you get, they have several other certifications.

Coach: And this is called a spider hang.

Owen: I have to do that?

Coach: And you make sure you look at the spider web when you do it, right Arden?

Owen: Okay, and then look at the spider web huh? Hands on yellow, feet on blue. Wow.

Owen: Well thanks for joining us at DadLabs. We're gonna be on the lookout for other cool things to do with your kids after school. And if you've got a particular activity that you and your kids enjoy, let us know about it. Come to DadLabs.com. Is that funny?
