Daddy Troy: Welcome back to Gear Daddy. I'm your host Daddy Troy. This whole week on DadLabs is a bit about bath time. And today on Gear Daddy, we're going to talk about bathtub safety. It's being sponsored by Boon. Innovation for modern parents.
So what's the most dangerous part of a bath tub? I'll give you a second. Water. Water's the most dangerous part. Because in just a few inches of water a kid can drown. So never ever leave your kid alone in the bath tub. Use it as a great time to interact with your kid. Another thing about the tub and water specifically is that water can be too hot. It can scald a kid in just a few seconds. So you definitely want to be measuring the temperature of the water with your hand or wrist or elbow as it's entering the tub. Once you've filled up the tub, there can also be different parts of the tub that are hot and cold. So you want to swirl it around with your hand. And then once you've got a full tub, there are some great tech devices we can use to actually measure temperature. This one right here is from Safety First. It's kind of similar to the forehead thermometers that you might have seen and it tells you the exact temperature of the water. This is another one that I really like. This is from Summer and it's an actual LED flashing light. Yellow means too cold, green warm and just right and then red too hot. And it actually has a digital read out so you can tell the exact temperature as well. Sassy has a little soft duck, the standard soft duck. And it has a little indicator on the bottom. And if ducks aren't your thing, you can go to this Munchkin brand. A cow with duck lips to keep with the theme and it has an indicator on the bottom. And these are really cool right here. You peel and stick these on your tub. These are no slip pads that go on the bottom of the tub. And they also register temperature. When they're magenta, it is too hot. Just because you've personally measure the temperature, realize that it may fluctuate as it's entering the tub or that your child may actually go up and turn it on when he or she's in the tub. So, a great thing to do is to go to your water heater and turn down the temperature so that the maximum temperature even in the house is that which is below what can burn a child. Another way to keep your kid from every burning him or herself by accidentally turning it too hot is to insert a barrier method such as the baby bath gate. It keeps the kid away from the controls. It also keeps a kid from falling and actually hitting his or her head on the controls or the faucet. You can also use from Boon, the Flo. I've used this for about two years now. And the Flo's this really cool device. It's so easy to put on. Check it out, you open it up, stick it on. It allows the water to come out. It comes out in a nice waterfall type fashion that the kids really enjoy playing with. It allows you to rinse your kid's hair with ease. And it keeps your kid from banging his or her head. It also has a funnel reservoir where you can put color tablets or you could put some sort of bubbly type material for the kid to have fun with in the bath. And then the kid can self dispense by pressing this little button right here. Not only that, it looks really cool as well. Well that's it for Gear Daddy.
