Daddy Clay: Hey welcome back the lab I am Daddy Clay.
Daddy Brad: And I’m Daddy Brad. Once again the lab is one the road. We’re here in the Big Apple, that’s New York City.
Daddy Clay: We’re come all the way here to the big city because Baby Bjorn is unveiling another great product this is called The Babysitter Balance. We’re really excited to learn all about it so we are going to go inside. But first we have to brave the urban jungle to get there.
Daddy Brad: It’s right across the street.
Daddy Clay: I know but I’m scared. I think we can do it.
Daddy Brad: You’re a country boy aren’t ya?
Daddy Clay: Let’s go! So we are here with Amy from Baby Bjorn and she is going to show me the way around this cool new baby seat.
Amy: Hi Clay!
Daddy Clay: Hey.
Amy: This is our new Babysitter Balance. The Babysitter balance a couple of unique features about it is that it actually has three different positions for baby. This is actually the lowest position which is really for sleep. There is a center position for resting or playing or eating snacks. And then also a fully, almost upright position for playing or eating as well. So three different positions.
Daddy Clay: Any position man you are bouncing, you’re grooving.
Amy: Right. The unique feature about the Baby Bjorn Babysitter Balance is the fact that no batteries are required. All of the movements by the sitter is controlled by the baby. So as baby kicks or bounces the sitter moves itself.
Daddy Clay: That’s good because it seems like dads are always in charge of the batteries. Do you know what I mean? It’s like my department. So the fewer of those the better.
Amy: The way the Babysitter Balance has been designed you can see how this is kind of like a pouch so the baby sits down into this sitter. And the cloth actually hugs the baby. It’s almost as just like being in mom or dad arms so they feel comfortable and secure while they are sitting in the Babysitter. The fabric is completely reversible so you can either change the look of the sitter or if baby has an accident in the sitter you can actually remove the fabric completely. And it is machine washable and it is also reversible. So if you wanted to have the black instead of the red you could do that as well.
Daddy Clay: Well clearly it should coordinate with the child’s outfit.
Amy: And also as with all Baby Bjorn products that have a textile component the fabric is ercotech tech certified. That’s a very strict European textile standard that guarantees that the fabric doesn’t contain any chemicals that are harmful to the baby.
Daddy Clay: So what’s the spec here? What’s the weight limit upper and lower ends?
Amy: You can use it with newborns as little as 8 pounds; up to 29 pounds which is another unique feature of this sitter is that it does have a very useful life, a longer life than many bouncy chairs. When the child gets older you can actually remove this restraint system. And in the upright position the child can get in and out on their own. And use it as a comfortable chair.
Daddy Clay: So Amy you’re hitting the road, you want to take this bad boy with you what is the trick?
Amy: Actually its very simple. It will fold down completely flat so that you can either store it or put it in the back of the minivan for your trips away.
Daddy Clay: Send it with your wife when she goes to visit the mother-in –law and you stay home to watch a ball game. You wouldn’t do that. I mean when you go with the family on an outing.
Amy: There are three things that we really like about the Babysitter Balance in our testing. I think one of the fist things that we like a lot is that it is not battery powered, it’s all baby powered. We like because it helps prevent some sleep problems that we see in babies, babies who are in a swing or in a chair that continues to move after they have fallen asleep become accustomed to needing to be moving while they are sleeping which is easy to do when you weigh 11 pounds but much more difficult to do when you weigh 20 pounds and are one year old. And the other issue that we see is that have been some sleep studies done that seem to indicate that babies who are moving the entire time they are sleeping are not getting as restful a sleep as babies who are still while they are sleeping. And so hopefully this, because it stops moving once the baby falls asleep, because the baby is no longer moving can prevent some of those sleep problems. The other thing we like is that it has a nice gentle movement which stimulates the vestibular system while are those fluid filled canals in your ears that help calm the colicky babies. And this movement is a nice gentle rocking motion similar to like when the mother holds the baby and rocks it. And the last thing that we really like is even though it is sort of very comfortable and cradles the baby with very with just the fabric it keeps them in nice spinal alignment and supports the head well.
Daddy Clay: Well is like all the dangly plastic crap? IS that in a different box?
Amy: No dangly plastic crap. This very clean, Swedish design. The baby entertains himself by rocking motion.
Daddy Clay: The sort of plastic crap that goes sort of here.
Amy: Sorry.
Daddy Clay: Hmm yeah. Oh yeah Swedish, oh now I get it.
