How to Wear a Baby Bjorn, Dude

Its always safety first when it comes to buying new baby accessories, and this week Daddy Clay showcases one of Baby Bjorn safest and most comfortable baby carriers, the Baby Bjorn Active Carrier. A one size fits all baby carrier that makes moving around with your newborn a breeze! DadLabs ep. 392. Brought to you by BabyBjorn.

Daddy Troy: Welcome back to Gear Daddy I am your host Daddy Troy. I’m here with Jim of Baby Bjorn and he is going to show us how to put one of these on one of these. Alright Jim suit me up.
Jim: Alright we are going to use the Baby Bjorn Active Carrier. Baby Bjorn carriers all pretty much all go on the same but this probably the most complicated, no that it is hard but we’ll go through that one and then you can understand any Baby Bjorn baby carrier.
Daddy Troy: And the rest are a piece of cake?
Jim: Absolutely. Alright all Baby Bjorn baby carriers are two piece. So for the time being put the front piece aside. You want to concentrate on the shoulder strap assembly. Especially for us guys the first thing to do is loosen everything up.
Daddy Troy: What are you trying to say?
Jim: Because we are big and fat and we need them looser so-
Daddy Troy: Okay got it.
Jim: So loosen everything. Okay maybe I am big and fat and you’re not Troy but when I have to put this on the best thing is to loosen it and it will save you all kinds of frustration later. Okay.
Daddy Troy: One of the true things about Baby Bjorn products is that this fits guys as well as women.
Jim: Exactly, exactly. So okay now it goes on like a jacket so put it in one arm there and the other arm through there. Now the biggest thing we are going to stay back here is this adjustment here. This is how you adjust for a larger person and obviously Troy is a little bit larger person. And you saw that. It slides on these rails, its mean to do that. And the biggest thing you want to do is this Baby Bjorn logo should be between your wing bones, basically right in the middle of your back. So when you have it in that position you are in pretty good shape. Turn back around this way. These should be about just about touching like that. Then you know you are in pretty good shape from an adjustment standpoint.
Daddy Troy: Okay so they don’t snap together or anything?
Jim: No, no it’s just a guide to say okay we are in pretty good shape.
Daddy Troy: Right.
Jim: Okay so then you are going to take the front piece. You’re going to notice that these are marked left and right.
Daddy Troy: Left and right.
Jim: Exactly and this one says left and right.
Daddy Troy: So you need to match them right?
Jim: Wow you are a genius. Push in until you hear the click.
Daddy Troy: Oh let’s see if we heard it.
Jim: Hear the audible click? Okay now you know you gotta test it and make sure everything is good there okay?
Daddy Troy: Sure.
Jim: These do have a safety built into them that you can’t push that button while there is weight under it. So even if it got pushed while the baby was in it, it couldn’t come out.
Daddy Troy: Really? Oh cool.
Jim: You wait-to undo it and we will show it later, you’ve got to push up a little bit to be able to push the button to release it. So that’s a safety built into the Baby Bjorn okay?
Daddy Troy: That’s amazing.
Jim: So you get to this point, now you can tighten up a little. Now there are two sets of straps, lumbar support straps and shoulder straps. And you can tell them although you can’t see them one is ends in a square and one ends in a triangle. So the lumbar is what you want to adjust first, which are the ones that are squared off. So if you grab, come back here grab on to that one. Pull forward and down, you are going to feel that snug up on your lower back.
Daddy Troy: Oh yeah sure.
Jim: Pull it tight. The tighter you pull it the more comfortable it is going to be on your lower back.
Daddy Troy: Okay.
Jim: It should feel really good. Then you can tighten these up just a little built here your shoulder straps.
Daddy Troy: Right here?
Jim: Yep just a little bit till it feels good. Then you can take another look at it. You know we are adjusting this now. IF we take it off, when you put it back on again you don’t have to go through this adjustment again if it’s you. If it’s a different person, your wife, or somebody going to carry the baby you’d have to make some minor adjustments because obviously different body sizes.
Daddy Troy: Right.
Jim: But once it is adjusted to you, you won’t have to adjust it again. Okay?
Daddy Troy: Okay super.
Jim: SO now you are to this point. Now the next set of latches is here and you will notice you have red here
Daddy Troy: Red right here.
Jim: Blue-Blue.
Daddy Troy: And blue right here.
J; Depending on if you’re left handed or right handed whatever you are most comfortable with you latch one of those. And again when you put it in-
Daddy Troy: SO this is pre baby still?
Jim: this is pre baby still.
Daddy Troy: The baby is pre boarding?
Jim: Were going to go this way because I am standing on this side of you. You go in and again you want to hear an audible click, it makes a click.
Daddy Troy: I heard it.
Jim: Check it, okay now you are in good shape. Now enter baby. Now you can wear Baby Bjorn two ways, you can wear it baby facing in or baby facing out. And what it basically determines is how old the baby is. If the baby cannot hold its head up by itself yet it needs to be facing in. If it is old enough it can face out and then it can hold its head up and it can view the world. So we’ll just show you in and then I can show you real quick how to do it out. But we’ll go in.
Daddy Troy: Right.
Jim: So at this point you would take your baby-
Daddy Troy: Supporting the head.
Jim: Supporting the head, slide on leg in here. Bring this side up.
Daddy Troy: So one leg goes to the already attached part?
Jim: The other one goes to this open part.
Daddy Troy: Okay.
Jim: Bring this under the arm and clip it.
Daddy Troy: So you are clipping the red like the last time?
Jim: The blue and the red. And again make sure it clicks. It clicks and you are in okay?
Daddy Troy: Good.
Jim: And then come up here, here and here and then you can pull on these head shoulder straps which will tighten this up and snug the baby up even closer to you. So you see the baby should be very comfortable. And again this is for a baby facing inward. One of the other things that differentiate a Baby Bjorn is that you can lay a sleep baby down very easily. So if baby falls asleep and you want to set him down without having to wrestle him out of it do what you are doing, supporting it, unclasp-
Daddy Troy: On this right here right?
Jim: Yep push it together, Push that one together. Come over and undo one of those still supporting the baby. Just push in on the back, the red part and slide on up. There you go, out. Hold him on that side. Out and now you can lean over.
Daddy Troy: I can put the baby down at that point.
Jim: Exactly. Put him down and you don’t have to wrestle him out from under the –
Daddy Troy: His eyes fall asleep like that right? Cool that’s great and I can also put the baby forward you said?
J; Yeah the only difference is when the baby is facing forward you fold this flap down and then reconnect it up here with the flap folded down. And you can see that it is out of the baby’s way. We’ll exorcists this baby around and you can see that baby facing out would be in this direction. So but all the same process okay?
Daddy Troy: Super got it wonderful. Wonderful for dads too it fits me because I am tall. Well thanks a lot Jim. That’s all for Gear Daddy. We’ll see you next week and all week long on DadLabs.com.
