How Slow Can You Stroll?

In this episode of Gear Daddy, Daddy Troy reviews another great item of baby gear. The Strollometer is a wireless computer that combines a speedometer, odometer, thermometer, and clock into one device. It attaches to your baby stroller or jogging stroller and can measure the distance you travel while walking, jogging, or running. This is one of the best baby products out there to keep your fitness and health in check while enjoying time with your baby. Time for all you dads to stroll your way into shape and lose the beer gut. Daddy Troy: So have you wondered how far a day you walk with your stroller or possible jog with your stroller, be it in a mall or in a park? Well there is a new product from Nine Months Up Nine Months Down and Dan here, it’s called a strollometer, is gonna tell us all about it.
Dan: The strollometer is a wireless speedometer, odometer, thermometer and clock that straps onto any stroller. And it’s a two part system. You got a sensor that straps onto the stroller leg. A magnet that you place onto the wheel and what happens is that it measures the number of rotations that go around on the stroller that sends a wireless transmission up to the consol.
Daddy Troy: There’s no wire running up your stroller.
Dan: There is no wire and that’s the main difference between this and bike computers. Most bike computers are wired. This is completely wireless. So you can fold up the stroller and not affect it at all. And the beauty of it is…
Daddy Troy: You can fold up the stroller and it’s all good.
Dan: It’s all good. Sometimes you just need to manipulate the sensors slightly. See here there’s a green light that goes off that tells you it’s reading the magnet, the wheel rotations. What you do is when you first start you program the diameter of your wheel.
Daddy Troy: That way it knows how many, what a rotation equals in the terms of linear distance.
Dan: Exactly. So, this compares favorably to a GPS system. It’s very different than a pedometer, which kind of just roughly estimates what your stride length is.
Daddy Troy: the pedometers that you put on whenever you take a stride it jiggles up and down.
Dan: Right, it’s very inaccurate. This is based on centimeters, a very tight measurement of the wheels and so it’s always accurate, always consistent.
Daddy Troy: So I have to get my little ruler at home and measure it and everything?
Dan: Actually not, in the instruction manual you have a ruler on top and a cheet sheet of the twenty most popular strollers that it fits on, including Bob’s, Phil and Ted, BugaBoo, Mcclarens and you just program that and your good to go. It also works in Fahrenheit and Celsius and miles per hour and kilometers.
Daddy Troy: Sure, that’s great. And so what kind of batteries does this take?
Dan: It takes a quintal battery, a c2032 in the censor and in the consol and that is included in the package.
Daddy Troy: How long does it last usually you think?
Dan: I would say six to nine months.
Daddy Troy: Ok, enough time to… nine months out, what’s the name of your company? Nine months out?
Dan: Nine Months Up Nine Months Down is based a woman gets pregnant nine months up and then she wants to lose all that baby weight, nine months down.
Daddy Troy: And you have the co-weight, Dad nine months up nine months down to, should do a little running. Maybe get rid of a little gut.
Dan: Yeah, yeah, no I probably should get back and spend a little more time on my stroller as well.
Daddy Troy: Right.
