DADDY TROY: True story. One day we were all going stir crazy. I threw them all in the minivan we went over to the local hardware store and we bought a bunch of PBC pipe. We came home and made this giant marble maze and had a great time. It’s a great opportunity not only to make this but go to the hardware store. I’m going to tell you some of the things I learned in the process of making this.

DADDY TROY: First of all you want to buy an inch and a half PBC pipe. They come in many sizes. The inch and a half is ubiquitous. Some other things you want to know is that these are called elbows. May I see your elbow for a minute? Not that one, that one. These are both called elbows and dude, what angle are these.

SON: Ninety degrees

DADDY TROY: Good teaching moment. One thing you want to notice about these, is this ones a short elbow and this ones a long elbow. So marbles are going to make it through this one better. What’s your favorite piece out here? What do you use that one for?

SON: To make jumps.

DADDY TROY: Are we going to make some jumps today?

SON: Yes.

DADDY TROY: We also have some of my favorite ones right here. We use this one a lot for the approach, right? We use this one to start but you can also see down it as well.

DADDY TROY: So you go to the hardware store and buy a bunch of eight-foot pipe. You leave a few long so the kids can have some long runs. You can also cut them up. I use a radial arm saw, but you can also use a reciprocating saw, and the hardware store sells this string of metal cord that you can cut the pipe by using the friction method. What you notice right here on this one, I used a jig saw to make little notches. It makes it easy for little hands to get this in and out. They tend to be a friction fit and they’re pretty hard to move so I notch them like that. Here is another piece right here that you will need its called a connecter. It connects one piece to another. So lets get started, lets build our marble maze.

DADDY TROY: Well that’s all this week for Gear Daddy. Big shout out to BabyBjorn some of the best baby gear on the planet. Now remember if you make one of these send us a picture we would love to recognize you on dadlabs.com we’ll see you next week.
