The 2011 Kids Expo is pretty cool and full of fun, and amazing baby products. Danny prowls the floor of the 2011 ABC Kids Expo looking for baby products that can be repurposed to extend their useful life. Danny is on the hunt for products at the ABC Kids Expo that could have an Afterlife. A baby tub as a beer cooler? A crib that doubles as a coffee table? A baby travel bag as a tailgating man purse? Why not be creative with products? Think outside the crib? Reduce, re-use and recycle is the mantra right? What could reduce waste more than giving products more than one use? Products from Okkatots, Upspring Baby, Orbit Baby, and So-ro.Episode 814 is brought to you by BabyBjorn.
Danny: At Dadlabs, we're dedicated to scouring the floors of the 2011 Kids Expo for amazing baby products, but I am going to go with a totally different approach. I'm going to go with the afterlife. When I mean the afterlife, I don't mean the afterlife; I'm talking about the product itself the stroller, the baby carrier, the crib. What do you do when the baby grows up? Let's find out! I am here with Orem and he's the inventor of AquaScale. Tell me what am I supposed to do with it, I have no idea. Orem: This innovation is actually a baby tub that is built in with a scale showing the baby's accurate weight on a display. Just fill in the amount of water you want in the tub and just press one press right there. Then place the baby in the cozy warm water. You just get the perfect exact measurement of the baby's weight on the LCD and on top of that you have the water's temperature. It can be used for 18 months after the baby can sit down you can remove this ergonomic part and the baby can sit on the opposite side so you can use it for a year and a half to two years. Danny: So let's say the baby has grown up. I am done with the baby. Orem: You're done with the baby? Danny: We can also use this as a beer cooler. Orem: As a beer cooler? Danny: You can take it, basically dump a bunch of ice in it and take it with you out to your friends' party. Throw some beers in there and then you can be like, dude, look, the temperature is awesome. Afterlife of a stroller for more than baby? Turn it into a planter. I am here with Ana and she is the creator of Soro. Please, tell me about this? Ana: I created these cradles out of very practical reasons. We have two different movements that we process in our brains. We have circular movements and linear movements. When you put the baby in a sideways rocking cradle their body will go like this. You can feel what that does to yourself, makes you a little bit dizzy, right? When you put the baby in a forward rocking cradle the baby will have linear movements, which is soothing and comfortable. Danny: It's not only a crib for the baby, you kind of flip this around and after the baby is done and you don't need it anymore you got yourself a nice coffee table. You said you can also use this for...? Ana: For toys or for blankets. Danny: You could actually take it and put dirt in it and you can have yourself a nice flower pot outside, and you would have a rocking flower pot, and you could rock the plants to sleep. Ana: You can also flip over and it becomes like a shelf. Danny: A bookshelf or you know what ‑‑ a bar. Ana: A mini bar? It's a very mini bar. Danny: A very mini bar or it could be a lemonade stand, but let's forget the lemonade. Ana: And you can actually fund charity organizations from selling lemonade on the street. Danny: Soro on the streets. Well thank you so much, Ana, and good luck. Let's see what else we can go find. OK I'm here with Emmie from Okkatots and she's holding a baby travel bag, so go ahead and tell me about this. Emmie: This baby travel bag is designed for your every need when you go on vacation with your kids. That way everything you have is in one spot and well organized. Every detail has been thoroughly thought out. The front pouch carries a portable DVD player. Then you open the bag, and it opens in a book view way. That way you can hang it from your hotel room or any closet rod. It has a pocket for almost everything and very well organized. You have a diaper changing mat as well as a wipes pouch and a pacifier pouch, this is removable so you can clean it, it doesn't have to stay in there. And it also comes with a laundry bag. This pouch is everybody's favorite, it has an insulator in it so you can keep four to six bottles in there. Throw in a freezer pack and they will keep cool. Danny: This can actually turn into a cool backpacking bag or a tailgating bag. This is a multi‑purpose use, I mean look at this. Emmie: You can stick a couple hot wings in there and keep them warm, or I don't know maybe some root beer. Danny: Or beer? Lets imagine were tailgating what would we do? Emmie: Well of course your utensils can still go in there, full size or baby size, and a bag of chips. Danny: Oh and look you can actually have wet ones. Emmie: For your wings! Well, a change mat may not be necessary but it could be a table cloth. Danny: Well this is great, this is pretty cool. So you've got yourself a baby travel bag or a...? Emmie: Or a tailgating baby dad bag. Danny: Mini bar crib? So anyway, I guess that wraps it up. That was some pretty interesting stuff we learned. I learned something, you learned something at the 2011 Kids Expo. See you later, at my mini bar crib.
