Is circumcision one of the topics you would never discuss with your sweet mum? Not if you're Owen! And not if your mum is an experienced pediatrician. Owen and his mum have a cocktail and talk foreskins, yay or nay. DadLabs Ep 343 Daditude.
Daddy Owen: To cut or not to cut? That is the question. Circumcision - it’s a big issue, bigger for some of us. Anyway it is at times like this I know I have to ask my mom. Ok so Dr. Mom, should I circumcise my child?
Mom: Well you didn’t encounter that question this time because you had a daughter.
Daddy Owen: Good point.
Mom: Well it is done in some parts of the world.
Daddy Owen: Yeah like Kansas.
Mom: So why are we circumcising boys?
Daddy Owen: So what is your opinion on this then?
Mom: Why cut a part of your body off when you’ve been given that lovely body as it is?
Daddy Owen: I say the same every time I have a haircut.
Mom: But I have to say - there was a time when you were about 4 months old, you had not been circumcised, I did not have my 3 sons circumcised nor my daughter. and in those days we used to wear cloth diapers on you. They were squares and we folded them into a triangle and then we bought the 3 corners together and then I would stick a big pin, it was called a safety pin through the 3 corners round the lower part of your…
Daddy Owen: Yes I know the area.
Mom: And one terrible day, the pin pierced your foreskin.
Daddy Owen: That explains actually quite a bit. I always pee on the guy next to me in the stall, makes me unpopular at stadiums.
Mom: I think the hole sealed.
Daddy Owen: Really?
Mom: Well you could tell me. But your next child if it is a boy, what decision are you going to make?
Daddy Owen: I would say no, yeah no circumcise.
Mom: Really? How is that going to go down with the in-laws?
Daddy Owen: Hopefully they, we are going to hide the penis from the in-laws for as long as we can, and then when they see the child naked then we will have a double and use Clay’s kid, sit there real quickly.
Mom: I have to present two sides of the issue today.
Daddy Owen: Ok so give me the argument for circumcision.
Mom: Yes there is some medical evidence that infection is increasing.
Daddy Owen: Keep it clean - scrub it up!
Mom: Teach the little boy how to clean it after the age of 2. Before the age of 2 if you get too vigorous over that you run the risk of it getting a bit stuck down.
Daddy Owen: Yes I used to clean mine all the time.
Mom: I hope you still do.
Daddy Owen: Well I do - or you know I arrange for cleaning.
Mom: A little Vaseline is helpful always.
Daddy Owen: Its true, if you have any questions you would like to ask my Mom, please feel free to leave a comment or email us at Dad Labs, this has been ask my mom.
